It is a word, Shibboleh, difficult to pronounce, which served as a checkpoint in the Bible to recognize one's enemies. It is an expression that today designates a verbal sign of belonging. With By the Throat, and through examples and images captured in the 4 corners of the world, Effi and Amir take us to the discovery of a solid, yet invisible border that determines the sounds and words we pronounce. We carry with us this boundary, created by our mother tongue, becoming ourselves mobile checkpoints, wherever we are.

The screening will be followed by a debate about the problems linked to love in the prison environment in the presence of Joseph Dégramon Ndjom, the director of the film, CNRS researchers and members of the jury.
Detyr, my 46 year old uncle, and his companion Adèle, 33, made a promise to each other while they were still prisoners: that they would make a life together once they were released. Today they live in the village of Nkonga (Cameroon) where they are struggling to start a new life and a little more than two years after their release, their desire to get married faces the opposition of my family. While questioning this atypical love story... I film the couple in their peregrinations, the way of the cross they endure to keep the promise of the prison." Joseph Dégramon Ndjom
